Vera Hoffman is a consultant and executive coach. Vera solves complex problems, creates useful tools and plans, and develops human capital. Her experience spans both strategy and execution over 15 years working with entrepreneurial companies ranging from idea-stage startups to Fortune 10 financial firms. She believes that every client organization should be helped to develop not only the solution and frameworks to address the problem at hand, but also the skills to successfully adapt to opportunity’s inevitably dynamic nature.
Vera brings a broad skill set and multi-disciplinary background to each engagement. She started her career by establishing one of the first Internet Service Providers in Africa and designing systems for British Airways in widely diverse locations across Europe and Africa. (The only constant was that cargo managers always felt the need to show their young visitor the airline’s morgue).
Moving to the US she joined a global consulting firm where she focused on transforming financial services business models. In this role Vera led engagements in the US and Europe, working with clients including Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley. She evolved into the role of an enterprise architect aligning strategy, organization, processes and technology to achieve her clients’ goals. Representative projects include the development of a portfolio of innovative financial services for a Fortune 10 financial services firm; integrating multiple customer, product and technology platforms for a bulge bracket firm; and leading a 100+ FTE program bringing traditional commercial banking into the Internet age while managing efforts across multiple language and cultural barriers.
In addition to her work with global firms, Vera has substantial experience with high growth entrepreneurial ventures. She led product management and go-to-market strategy for StreamBase, a leader in low-latency big data analysis: key applications include high frequency trading. (Cold calling hedge funds to research their sources of competitive advantage and vulnerabilities was a trial by fire). Vera developed the initial market projections, business plan and investor presentation for Acquia, a venture-backed company that has grown from raw idea to 4,000 enterprise customers and over $70M in revenue. Acquia was named by Deloitte as the fastest growing privately-held technology company in 2013.
Vera’s academic credentials include honours degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. She has lived and worked on three continents (and filled multiple passports with visas and work permits). Vera currently resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
